Hilary Adair was born in Sussex and studied painting and printmaking at Brighton and St.Martin's Schools of Art. Then followed 5 years as Visiting Lecturer at various colleges of art before moving to Greece. For the next 11 years she was based in Athens, where her first solo exhibition was presented by the British Council
In 1982 she returned to England with her family and settled in West Somerset where she has lived ever since, though keeping close contact with Greece. Hilary has carried out commissions for both public and private spaces and is always interested to discuss possible projects.
Her new studio is between Exmoor and the sea, in West Somerset, where she develops ideas for paintings using watercolour, oils and acrylics. Also known as a printmaker, her work has been widely exhibited and in 1987 she was elected to the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers. Her prints are regularly exhibited at the Bankside Gallery, London, the headquarters for the Royal Society of Painter Printmakers and the Royal Watercolour Society She is a member of the Somerset Printmakers.
