Somerset Art Weeks 2010 Open Studios - 18/9/10
to 3/10/10
A
Room with a View
My studio exhibition this year features paintings
and prints on the theme of windows, a subject I have always loved
to paint both here on Exmoor and when travelling abroad. I hope
the enjoyment I find when depicting the contrast between inside
and outside and the effect of light on glass and shutters can be
shared with you.
My landscapes, (with which regular visitors to
my studio are probably more familiar) and other work can be seen
by special appointment in the mornings from 11am -
1pm. Otherwise I will be here daily from 2pm - 5pm to show you my
work. All are welcome.
The yellow SAW signs will direct you to my studio,
which is not suitable for wheelchairs. |
| Welcome to my web site.
I am an artist working with paint, either oils or
acrylics, on canvas and watercolour on paper, and drawing with all
sorts of different media. As well as painting I make prints, mostly
etching with some silkscreen lino-relief and mono prints. I find
that the two areas of painting and printmaking overlap and though
very different are also complementary. If a painting equates to
a novel, then an etching is more like a poem, with its own unique
range of marks and textures. |

My experiences are part of what I paint and this is how
I make sense of the world. Greece is a country where I once lived and
this permeates my work as does land/sea scape, music and poetry, gardens
and archaeology. I have divided my work into subject areas, as I am always
using imagery from the outside world even when it springs from the imagination.
All the paintings and prints on this website are in England.
Various companies and private individuals have commissioned work and I
am always interested to discuss ideas and projects and welcome visitors
to my studio to see recent work. Some of my paintings are big, others
less so, some use the form of diptych or triptych and many incorporate
windows as part of the composition.
Most of my pictures are available for purchase
and prices range from £75 for small etchings to £2,750 for
big paintings. Prints are supplied unframed and can be posted
by Special Delivery in a sturdy tube to arrive next day. Paintings and
watercolours include simple frames and can be sent by carrier. Contact
me for details and prices.
